Does this only happen on a single machine for this user?
Can they get to the web interface for tableau server?
Obvious question: Does this user have a proxy set up on this system? How to Configure a Proxy Server on Windows
Thanks Jay. I should have provided more details that are as under:
- Only checked on same machine that is in use by this person because the Tableau environments in question are using (OpenID in DEV/QA & AD in PROD) so user needs to be logged in with their profile.
- Yes, they can get to the web interface without any issues.
- Proxy is setup for all users like any general corporate environment where web requests are going via proxy however no other users are being prompted for proxy authentication except this user when trying to sign-in to Tableau Servers (both DEV/QA and PROD) through Tableau Desktop. Also, proxy is setup as part of the enterprise policy so we can't change them on user's computer.
Hope this gives more clarity.
I guess another question I should have asked, if the use puts in their proxy credentials, does it work?
my guess is that there is an issue with this users system and the way the proxy is set up, Have you talked with your IT department yet? they can check if there are any settings that are different than one of the working systems, and they will have a better understanding of how your network and computers are set up. If they don't find the issue, I would recommend opening a support case
It still doesn't work when user provides their credentials unfortunately.
The IT team is already looking into this however they've asked if Tableau desktop could be using different ports (not 80 or 443) to connect to Tableau Server since the user can access both Tableau Server environments just fine through internet browsers. I'd ask them to open a support case once they've at least confirmed that there isn't anything differently set for the user in question either on their computer or for their user profile on network.
Thanks again for your response.
