Daily Report on Server, Connected to SAS/Excel on LAN

    Ross Moffitt

What would be the proper process to set up this scenario:

There is a dashboard on the Tableau Server that needs to update daily. The data comes from a SAS file and an Excel file that is stored on a LAN drive and updated daily.

How can this process be set up most efficiently?

Can I link a manually produce file stored on a LAN onto the server as a Live Connection?

Should I also create an extract based off of the manually prepared files?

Do these SAS and Excel files need to be on the server? Or can they be on a LAN?

Or would it make sense for the user to do this manually using Desktop, and Publish a new file to the server that overwrites the workbook on the server every day?

      Any help is greatly appreciated.
