I did already read through all the articles on SAML and ADFS once... or twice. I did end up talking to my sales rep and he said... it's highly likely that with single sign on, not being able to switch users is an intended functionality. We did end up getting our ADFS/SAML working. Unless anyone can say otherwise we'll continue down another direction
We are looking forward to ADFS/SAML configuration from currently AD with trusted domains clients. Can you please share your environment at a high level and experience/recommendation. We have multiple trusted domains and like to know how it is going to work or login for clients from trusted domains and views from embedded clients. Currently, they are login with Domain\userID.
We actually realized that our external portal could pass their credentials to Tableau automatically meaning we didn't have to configure Tableau to use ADFS at the end of the day. We did get it configured though, just to realize we didnt need it at all.
Currently we only use trusted domains to access data sources on those domains and not to let users in. That being said we didn't find any additional changes were required.
You might want to double check with someone else thats been using ADFS long term however.
Best of luck!
Thank you, Eric.
