Can you share 2 of those CSV files so that I can see what's happening too? And which version of Tableau are you on?
I am using 16 csv files. It is more than 5 GB of data. I upload one sheet here: https://public.tableau.com/profile/rofarias#!/vizhome/Multiplecsvfiles/Sheet1?publish=yes
Do you think it is possible to have access to the files from the link above?
Please check if you are having same columns across your all csv files. After UNION drag table name field to rows . If you get names of all 16 files then UNION works!!!
As Deepak suggested, please check if you have the same columns in all of them. If yes, then can you share at least 2 data files with a sample 5-10 lines of data? It will be easier to check if we too have the issue.
Edit: I do not have Tableau 10.3. So, cannot work with the workbook you published.
Tableau does not allow me to post the CSV files here because they are too big.
Need a workbook in 10.2 with a small sample of records from at least 2 files.
Could you making a viz with the "Table Name" field? Try doing it with an extract as well. If the viz works, then there's a bug in our Data Grid UX.
To upload the full data, you can file a support case so we can get the data. Mention Roger Hau and Support will triage it to me so the devs and I can debug it.
What version are you using ? It looks like you've found a known bug (in 10.2.1 and 10.3.0 from memory). I reported this to Tableau a while ago and it's on their fix list, but hasn't been addressed yet.
Do you have the Case # or Bug # that resulted from your report?
I reported as part of the 10.3 beta, but this is the email I got back from the Beta team:
"Thanks for sending this in. It looks like this actually broke in 10.2.1 and carried over to 10.3. We'll look into this and fix it as soon as possible (may not be in the official 10.3 release or upcoming 10.2.2 maintenance release, but probably a maintenance release after)."
I haven't tested it in 10.2.2, but it doesn't say anything about it being fixed
This was how I reported the bug to the Beta Team:
"I was accidentally using 10.3, but I realised that when I started unioning the files together, when unioning the 3rd file (the order doesn’t matter at all), the [Table Name] field is null.
In 10.2 it works perfectly, it only seems to be a problem in 10.3"
So I would suggest downgrading (if possible) to get around this problem.
Thanks for the pointer Chris, I found your Beta email, which got linked to internal bug 642560. That bug was fixed in 10.2.2, and I'd appreciate it if you could try and reproduce your error and let me know if you're still seeing issues. Apologies that we didn't close the loop when we closed that internal bug.
I just retested 10.2.2 and 10.3.0 (released), and it looks like the issue was fixed, but I would like to confirm with your data.
I'm wondering if Rogerio has found a different issue...
Hi guys. Sorry for the delay. I just arrived at work. I am creating the union again just to make sure that I did it correctly. It takes more ages to process the request.
As soon as I finish I will create an extract, create a viz with "Table Name" and then upload the full data.
I am using 10.3.0.
