Programatic Refresh of A Published Data Extract

    Jake Konovsky

I have developed a process in python that updates data in a sql table when you hit a button in a web application. This is clicked at any time during the day. I then connect that table to a Tableau workbook (a live connection) that is embedded into the same web application. When you hit the page that includes the embedded workbook it takes about 13 seconds for the Tableau view to render which is less than ideal. I would like to connect the Tableau workbook to a published data extract of the updated sql table instead of a live connection to reduce the time it takes for the view to render. In order to do this I need to refresh the published data extract when someone hits the button in my web application.

So my main question... Is there a way to programatically refresh a published data extract on demand
