are you referring to the tabcmd export command?
if so it is going to open the view based on the URL which will load what ever filters and parameters were in place when the workbook was published.
really this is how it is going to behave if accessed by URL regardless of what is accessing the view (tabcmd or other wise) check out How View URLs Are Structured for info on passing filters and parameters in the URL
Hope this helps!
Hi Jay, thanks for the quick reply. I am referring to the trick where you set a URL button that ends with .csv, and it exports the specified sheet to a .csv file.
I have briefly reviewed the How View URLs are Structured link you sent, but there's one thing I can't figure out. To get filters into the URL, do I have to type them in / set them ahead of time? Really, what I am hoping to do is filter data based on my interactive dashboard, then export that data into Excel. As it stands now, I can preset which filters are exported, but it won't be the interactive/refreshed data that I want.
Thanks again for everyone's time!
I really appreciate your response. I attempted to click Download --> Crosstab, but unfortunately it is greyed out on my screen. Otherwise, that likely would have been exactly what I needed (an export of the filters set on the dashboard). I've surfed around the Tableau Community in the past couple days, and I haven't been able to find the solution. I do very much appreciate your time!

make sure you have "selected" the sheet on the dashboard that you wish to get data for (click on the title or somewhere in the sheet), if the option is still grayed out check the permissions (or check with the Tableau server or site admin)
Wow - this is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you so much for your time and assistance, Jay!
