Remove "Sign in to Tableau Server" for Users

    Michael Looft

      Using tableau 10.1.7

I switched my workbooks from Tableau Public to Server, and now users are being asked to sign in. Other than setting all users to "Interactor" in the permissions section of the publish workbook dialog box (which didn't work), I'm not sure what to do as I don't want users to have to sign in. As a note, my databases don't need signin credentials (which I don't believe is the issue). I've fiddled with workbook permissions as well inside Tableau Server, but can't seem to get it to work.

Here is the live link: http://marinpromise.org/tableau

Here is the Server Link (packaged workbook should be available for download): https://tableau.strivetogether.org/#/site/MarinPromise/views/MP_ReportCard/DBFullData

Here is the Public Link (which doesn't ask for signon): https://public.tableau.com/profile/michael.looft#!/vizhome/MP_ReportCard/DBFullData

      Thanks for the help!

          Hi Michael,

A user account is required for accessing content on Tableau Server.

Here's some more information on Licensing:

          Licensing Overview

Alternatively, vizzes can be shared on Tableau Public (as you know) or directly with users who can open them with the free Tableau Reader

          Hope this helps-

Thanks, Virginia. This makes sense. However, when I put it on Tableau Public one of my dashboards hangs and won't completely open for some users (including me!). I switched our site over to point to the public link, so please let me know if this hangs for anyone (and the embed script is below just in case I have a setting that I'm missing):Milestone Data in Tableau (beta) — Marin Promise

I thought it was a speed issue and that moving it over to Server would help - but asking the general public to create logins is simply not an option. To note, this happens when I embed the script into our website, so could it be an issue with the speed of our web host (square space)? I don't want to knee **** make assumptions as we've spent a lot of time and effort to get tableau going over here at our nonprofit and not being able to use it would be really challenging.

For issues with embedding, I would recommend posting in the developer forum and tagging with JAVASCRIPTAPI

              Developer Forums

              JavaScript API

If you are running a core based license for tableau server, you can enable "Guest" access for embedded views. Otherwise every user needs credentials for the tableau server instance

check out Guest User for more information.

                  Thanks, Jay - that worked.

Hello everyone, I'm having the same issue since a few days back with a report that we have hosted on our private Server Instance.

Michael I open the link you sent and is asking me login in to view the report.
