1. Re: Tableau creates nested temp folders and cannot access data directory to open .twbx files

Its possible this file you are mentioning was opened in a newer version than what you have? Other users that sneakily opened in a newer version and saved it?

Thanks for the reply. So when I talk about a newer version, I'm talking about a newer version of the file not a newer version of Tableau. For example, lets say I have workbook_v1.0.twbx and workbook_v1.7.twbx; The previous file opens but the new one doesn't. Both workbooks are on my computer in the same folder. Also, if I make changes to an older version that opens, and save it as a .twbx, it doesn't open again.

Karthik Venkatachalam Mar 28, 2017 11:14 AM (in response to Tanuj Manoharan)1 of 1 people found this helpfulThat is what am saying as well. Your work book has been opened in a newer version of Tableau, something newer than 10.1.1 64-bit.

I've got the same question - twbx with dual data sources. I went to repoint one of the data sources and now can't even open the file - I get the error below. So I can no longer open Tableau to fix the data connection. I did save a version of the file just before repointing the data but that version won't open as well. File was saved in 10.1. I'm using 10.1 to try to open it - so Karthik's suggestion won't apply.

6. Re: Tableau creates nested temp folders and cannot access data directory to open .twbx files
dmitry kaplan May 30, 2017 12:05 PM (in response to Tanuj Manoharan)Temporary workaround that worked for me:
Use 7zip (or some other archive manager) to open the twbx file. There will be a few files inside the archive. Grab the twb file (the workbook itself) out of there. You should be able to edit it but you will have to re-add all the data sources. Good luck!

7. Re: Tableau creates nested temp folders and cannot access data directory to open .twbx files
Angela Cheng Mar 7, 2018 8:12 AM (in response to Tanuj Manoharan)I have got the same error! And for my situation is - I only use one data source that's connecting directly to a SQL Server. I didn't save multiple copies after changes, so my main file just started to see this issue and cannot populate on Tableau server, and I will have to redo a ton of work if there's no solution
I see this post is from last year, but not answered still. Anyone has a solution?
Thanks,
Angela
