1. Re: Correction ideas for Chrome v57 problems?
Gene Denny Mar 23, 2017 6:09 AM (in response to Ryan Eavey)I'm having issues with Chrome this morning, too, but we also migrated to new hardware last night. When I go to the server URL, the page reloads over and over again about every .5 seconds without any input from me.
HELP!

Russell Christopher Mar 23, 2017 8:25 AM (in response to Ryan Eavey)2 of 2 people found this helpfulNo problems here against Server 10.2.0 (10200.17.0223.1918) 64-bit. I saw this thread and was still running v56, so upgraded and went right back in. The only difference between you and me is that I hadn't hit "my" server in quite a while, so likely didn't have any cookies or cached content lying around on my client in the first place.
If this indeed something client-side, I'm not sure what else you could do except clear your cache, unfortunately. The only thing that might be in the realm of possibility is check headers and see what sort of expiration Tableau is putting on content: Perhaps you could hack this (which would be unsupported) and do something like see/change the cache-control setting (assuming that's what is utilized, I've never looked).

2 of 2 people found this helpfulI too tested with our internal Tableau server after updating Chrome and do not see an issue with 10.2.0. of Tableau Server. What version of Tableau Server is in use causing the issue?
One quick test to determine if cached objects are contributing to the issue is to try logging in to Tableau Server from an Incognito window. This will give you a fresh login. If the Incongnito login works fine, then I suggest clearing the cache/cookies as was posted.
We would love to know the Tableau Server version and results because if you are experiencing this issue, it is likely other users will also have Chrome issues and the more information the better.
Thank you,
Patrick

Gene Denny Mar 23, 2017 11:37 AM (in response to Patrick A Van Der Hyde)Clearing the local cache seems to have fixed this issue, but it was the strangest behavior I've ever seen in a browser, and not isolated to a single machine.

5. Re: Correction ideas for Chrome v57 problems?
Ryan Eavey Mar 23, 2017 11:40 AM (in response to Russell Christopher)Thanks for the ideas, Russell. I don't have the option to do anything that would involve making unsupported changes to the server.
At this point we are having people just clear their cache. They need to clear both the "Cookies and other site and plugin data" and the "Cached images and files" from the beginning of time in Chrome. Once these two elements of the browsing data are cleared it returns to normal functionality.

6. Re: Correction ideas for Chrome v57 problems?
Ryan Eavey Mar 23, 2017 11:50 AM (in response to Patrick A Van Der Hyde)Hi, Patrick,
I'm using Tableau Server version 10.0.1 (10000.16.0917.1429) 64-bit.
I just did some more testing and was quite surprised to find that everything functions properly when using an incognito window. Using a single Chrome window I first connected to the Tableau Server and experienced the expected problems with v57. Then I opened an incognito Chrome v57 window and was able to connect to Tableau Server without any problems. Then I cleared the browser cache in the non-incognito window and was able to use Tableau Server without any problems.
Thanks,
Ryan

Ryan and Gene - what Tableau Server version are you on?

8. Re: Correction ideas for Chrome v57 problems?
Gene Denny Mar 23, 2017 11:53 AM (in response to Patrick A Van Der Hyde)We are using 10.2 on both Desktop and Server.
To add some more data points, the issue I had began with v56 of Chrome. I then went ahead and updated it to v57 and had exact same behavior. The other thing that I'm seeing is that, when using FireFox, credentials are no longer being passed and users are required to login once again. Keep in mind, we also migrated to new hardware over night, so I'm not sure which variable(s) are at fault here.

Yeah that's a lot in the mix Gene. Thanks for the details.
Ryah - thansks for your version info and for the post with the details. This allows our server support team to be aware of the issue should we start seeing other customer reports. The quick fix of clearing the cache is also very helpful.
