Hi Durga
FYI - I've moved your query in to the Server & Online area of the COmmunity as it's likely to attract more responses there.
The Community Canvas area is for posting queries relating to the functionality/features of the forum itself (eg if you're having difficulting posting something etc)
Regards
Donna

Mark Holtz Mar 9, 2017 8:13 AM (in response to Durga Patsa)Durga,
I don't think you need to go down the path you're describing--and I don't believe it's really possible on Tableau Server anyway.
If your underlying database refreshes once per week and is stale, you just need to set your extract to refresh as close to after the refresh process of your underlying database completes as possible.
Maybe I'm missing something in your requirements.

Durga Patsa Mar 9, 2017 8:40 AM (in response to Mark Holtz)Thanks for the reply, Mark!
If I publish the 'Extract' report to the server and set the refresh frequency once a week, then are you saying it does not try to connect LIVE, instead the extract will get refreshed with latest data?
Did I understand your response correctly?
Surprisingly sometimes I don't see that 'Refresh' option on my screen. Screenshot attached.

Mark Holtz Mar 9, 2017 8:50 AM (in response to Durga Patsa)Yes, you would need to first change your datasource in the Tableau Workbook to become an extract as opposed to a live query.
Tableau will query the database and build a .tde file immediately.
Then, when publishing a workbook with a .tde source, you have the option to set the refresh schedule of the .tde extract file(s).
You can also publish a .tde as a datasource independently to Tableau Server (and set it on a refresh schedule) and then point one or more Tableau workbooks directly to it via a Tableau Server connection for your data source.
