im using it like when adding a description on a new project
tabcmd publish "%dir%\bla.twb" --project "Project name" -d "bla bla bla <br> 1. bla 2. bla 3. bla" --name "bla" -o
interesting, I didn't know you could add description via tabcmd. I tinkered with the HTML that is rendered on Tableau Server, and bottom line is that I don't see any straight forward way to force a line break.

I have done the following successfully (on v9.3) when creating projects (using tabcmd) so assume it works when publishing workbooks.
Like Jeff, I didn't realise you could add the description.
tabcmd createproject -n "My Project" -d "<html><H1>This is a header</H1>This is a new Line..<br /> So is this</html>"
Hope this works for you
All the best
I tried both your suggestion for both the project and workbook. It works for the project...
It appears in the details for the workbook, but not if you hover over the thumbnail.
Although I wouldn't change the CSS on my server, this worked for me in Server 10.0.3:
Edit the workbook description using NEWLINEs rather than HTML breaks as they get stripped out.
1.) go to ...\Tableau Server\10.0\vizportalclient\public\ and rename vizportal.css.gz out of the way.
2.) edit vizportal.css and add "white-space: pre;" to .tb-content-item-popover-description so it looks like:
3.) you wont need to restart Tableau server, but probably need to shift-reload your browser. My 10 line comment was truncated to 5 lines (overflow: hidden).
