    More Like Maximum Site Role

    Paul Merrill

Did anyone else get tripped up on this when assigning a site role to a user?

I synced up an AD group and gave them a minimum site role of Viewer. I figured this meant that they would at least be able to view everything on the site unless something was published that explicitly denied it. Then, I saw some odd behavior with permissions so I read through this guide: Content Access and Ownership. I now understand that the permissions applied by the site role will override any permissions assigned to a resource that was published to the site. (If minimum site role is viewer, you cannot assign them interactor permissions on a view).

      1. Is my understanding correct?
      2. If yes, why is it called Minimum site role when it represents the Maximum allowed set of permission for the entire site?
