I was hoping to keep my dates discrete and not continuous in which case the above solution will not be applicable. Yuriy's solution is a good work around for discrete dates but will require me to create parameters for each category and will not be dynamic if the underlying data changes.

You'd like to combine
Shin's approach with Blended Dates
with mine of RefLine on Y-Axis.
There is absolutely no obligation
to use Parameters (as I did).
My prepared data does not have whole date of event on primary data.
so Blend on discrete does not work when date is missing..
If you have all dates in primary data, you can blend and create start and end.
(Or all event start / end date are on primary data0

Thanks Yuriy! Your answer was really helpful. Is there also a hack to choose automatic axis but fill up the grey background till the top of the chart? The axis adjusts and the blue bars obviously appear shorter when you add WINDOW_MAX * 1.07.
Obviously, one would fix the Y-Axis,
then set the RefLine at any value.
Though I'm not aware of the way
to achieve this "dynamically".
