'Top n' filter for a view and not across data

I am trying to view the top 3 (by date) in my table but the 'top 3' is calculated on the global data and not affected by other filters on my sheet.

      Example Data:

      Category A - 01/01/2017 - 50

      Category B - 01/02/2017 - 60

      Category C - 01/03/2017 - 70

      Category A - 01/04/2017 - 80

      Category B - 01/05/2017 - 90

      Category C - 01/06/2017 - 100

      Category A - 01/07/2017 - 110

      Category B - 01/08/2017 - 120

      Category C - 01/09/2017 - 130

      Category A - 01/10/2017 - 140

      Category B - 01/11/2017 - 150

      Category C - 01/12/2017 - 160

      Category A - 01/13/2017 - 170

      Category B - 01/14/2017 - 180

      Category C - 01/15/2017 - 190

In the above sample data, if I add a filter on Top 3 dates and on Category B, the view returns only one row (second last) but I would want to see the top 3 dates by category. Will this involve creating a calculated field or can it be done with filters directly?

      Thank you for your help.
