Default Alternating Row Shading in Tableau - Why?

Information Design tells us to avoid alternating row shading (Stephen Few etc.) because the readers attention is called to the colored (shaded) rows.

Why does Tableau have the default table shading enabled and is there a way to set the row shading generally default to none?
