# YoY Comparison - Same month last year(current date)

Hello,

I am trying to do a daily(dynamic) comparison of volume, comparing MTD volume with same month last year(MTD) volume.  Each day would add current day volume and previous year same day volume to be compared.  hope this make sense; for example, today is 12/20/2016, I would to compare the MTD volume with previous year's MTD volume(12/20/2015).

Please let me know if there are any questions.

Thank you.

It all depends on how you want to show it. You could show you value and time period in the view and then filter to the current month.

If you would prefer to not filter your values, then you could create an equation where "IF Month(Today) = Month(Date Field) THEN [Metric] END". This would also produce what you want.

Do you have any restrictions? How are you visualizing this information (tiles, line graph, etc)?

Thank you Wesley!  I was thinking to present it as a simply table with years in columns and another column showing YoY Index.

Ok, to get what you're looking for just create a "Month to Date" calculation that looks like this:

IF MONTH([Date]) = MONTH(TODAY())

AND DAY([Date]) <= DAY(TODAY())

THEN [Metric]

END

Then add YEAR(Date) as a discrete field to the Columns shelf and it will look something like this:

I hope this helps.

We are getting there; what if I want to exclude today's date from both sides?

thanks much!

Do you want to exclude 12/20 altogether or just exclude 12/20/2016. To accomplish the former you'll just need to change your MTD calc to exclude the most recent day. It would look like this:

IF MONTH([Date]) = MONTH(TODAY())

AND DAY([Date]) <= DAY(TODAY()) - 1

THEN [Metric]

END

To just exclude literally Today I would recommend. I would use your date field as a filter and exclude the MAX
