I'm having no problems with an S6 Edge+ running Marshmallow 6.01. I doubt the hardware itself could be the difference, and it sounds like my OS is the same as yours.
Are you sure it's something else going on? Network connectivity perhaps? Can you hit the Tableau Server in question from in the Chrome browser on the phone?

Do you use SSL? Perhaps the OS upgrade affected the SSL certificate on your device. We have an article referencing a similar error where the solution is to install the SSL cert on the device: Unable to authenticate with SSL Tableau Server from Tableau Mobile: "This server doesn't support secure communication...… which actually just points to this Google Nexus article: Add & remove certificates - Nexus Help
