# Show Previous Year, Current Year and Plan on same Line Graph

Hi,

I want to show my current year, previous year and my plan on a line graph with dynamic range, so if my last date is October 2016 I want my graph to show October 2015-October 2016 with each line being CY, PY and Plan. These are all in the same dimension. Please see attached data set.

Thank you all in advance and let me know if anything is not clear.

• Right click the MONTH(Date) pill on the column shelf and select the Month option above. Note in the description to the right it just shows 'May' not 'May 2015'.
This will layer your lines on top of each other as you're just looking at the 'month' now not the month and year.

What I don't understand however is how you are determining your last date. The data for version X and Y both go through December 2016, I was sort of expecting there would be a cut off? Based on how your data is now, it looks like X has data in 2015 and 2016 and Y only has data in 2016. Are you looking to just show data for X where there is an equivalent period in Y?

Hi Eleonor,

I suspect you'll need to create three measures, CY, LY and Plan.

A few things are unclear however.

1.  You say you want to show October 2015-October 2016.  If you are only showing one year (13 months) of data how do you want the PY represented?

2.  The range of values for the version dimension is X and Y.  I assume Y represents plan but that is only guess.

3. October 2015-October 2016 is 13 months do you want to show 12 or 13 months?

And just a general tip, you should try to include data that matches your question.  The data in your workbook goes up to December.

Below is a screenshot of 2015, 2016 and Plan assuming X are actuals and Y is plan.

Hi Ivan,

Y is plan, that is correct and - I got confused between my original data and the dummy data I set up, hence I did data for two full years whilst I only need to October.

I appreciate what you made up but I need it to go from the latest date to same month last year, not January to December and that is what I am struggling with.

If I make the date field continuous it places the previous years under 2015 but I need them to be parallel.

Thanks,

Eleonor

Hi Tom,

How would I go about to get them on the same graph, so not the year dimension? I need to compare it on the same axis, as well showing October to October not January to December.

Sorry for making the data confusing, it was meant to just go to October.

Thanks,

Eleonor

If you remove the Year dimension from the rows shelf they will be on the same graph.

Drag Date to the filter shelf, select the 'Month / Year' option and select October 2015 through October 2016

I think filtering by 10/15-10/16 will filter out the PY data.
