Adding Index Removes Label From Bar Graph

    Gerardo Lopez

I am following the Tableau instructions at the URL below to display the top N items in a dashboard.  However, once I add the INDEX() function, I am no longer able to display labels, they completely disappear from my sheet.  I was able to replicate the behavior using a new sheet in the superstore workbook.

Create a bar graph on a new sheet of the Superstore workbook, and plot Sum([Sales]) vs. Sub-Category, I get this (so far so good):

However, once I add the Index() function as a row and convert it to discrete, I can no longer get any label to appear.  Enabling/disabling 'show labels' causes the bar graph to scale down a small amount as if it were adding the labels, but they never appear.  What am I doing wrong, how can I make the labels visible? (And yes, I did add SUM([Sales]) to the labels shelf).  Removing Index from the shelf causes the label to immediately appear. See attachment Sheet 21
