Question: Is it possible to use a return as an item delimiter in an action?

I am generating an email with lines of data.  I need each on a new line.  Is it possible to use a return as an item delimiter?  I've tried entering vbcrlf and return into the box, but no luck - this only applies them literally as text.

It looks like the URL interface isn't going to give you a carriage return in there.

I can suggest something else though.

You can embed a carriage return in a string.  Create a calc that looks like this:

          "First Line

          Second line"

Right in the calc editor, put that carriage return between something within the quotes, and your calc has an embedded carriage return.

That's only a piece of the puzzle.

Maybe you can create the whole URL in a calc.  I have a hyperlink action on a button (sheet) that just uses a calc in which I build my whole URL string.

          The calc looks like this:

          "https://(my server)/#/views/ScoreCardExcel/DonationAmountExcel.csv" +

          "?Is%20Pledged="+[Is Pledged]+

          "&Period%20to%20View="+[Period to View]+

          "&Fiscal%20Month="+str([Fiscal Month]) +

          "&Retention%20Category="+[Retention Category] +

          "&KMI="+[KMI]

On the URL line for the hyperlink action I can select fields that are on the sheet.  one of my choices in the pulldown is my calc, and I just select that.

So maybe you can build the whole string in the calc and bypass the need for multiple values.

It's just an idea.  I have never seen "Livelink Search" like you have in your screenshot.  Maybe that precludes the idea I offered.  But I just thought I would throw it out there for you.

Thank you.  I’ll see if I can apply that to my situation.  There is a multi-select filter where users can select which files they want to request.  Then they click a button and it generates an email with all of those files listed.  The problem is the list looks weird if it’s separated by a comma.

For example, a single line in <REQUEST_FILTER> looks like this:

            Well: WELL_a50 | Title: INVOICE 6/1978-12/1978 | Barcode: 000095454

…and those lines separated by anything other than a return look odd:

            Well: WELL_a50 | Title: INVOICE 6/1978-12/1978 | Barcode: 000095454,Well: WELL_a51 | Title: INVOICE 6/1978-12/1978 | Barcode: 000095455,Well: WELL_a52 | Title: INVOICE 6/1978-12/1978 | Barcode: 000095456,Well: WELL_a53 | Title: INVOICE 6/1978-12/1978 | Barcode: 000095457,Well: WELL_a54 | Title: INVOICE 6/1978-12/1978 | Barcode: 000095458

            Need to have like this:

            Well: WELL_a50 | Title: INVOICE 6/1978-12/1978 | Barcode: 000095454

            Well: WELL_a51 | Title: INVOICE 6/1978-12/1978 | Barcode: 000095455

            Well: WELL_a52 | Title: INVOICE 6/1978-12/1978 | Barcode: 000095456

            Well: WELL_a53 | Title: INVOICE 6/1978-12/1978 | Barcode: 000095457

            Well: WELL_a54 | Title: INVOICE 6/1978-12/1978 | Barcode: 000095458

I’ll play with it and see if I can apply your suggestion.

I'm not having any luck applying this to my situation.  I tried [REQUEST_FILTER] + char(13), which does create a carriage return after each line, but I'm still forced to include a delimiter and delimiter escape.  I tried using a space for each, but then everywhere there's a space in my data, it add a space.

EDIT**  Ok, I added the char(13) to the front of the field like: char(13) + [REQUEST_FILTER].  Then in the delimiter used "," (no quotes), which created this:

              Well: WELL_a50 | Title: INVOICE 6/1978-12/1978 | Barcode:000095454,

              Well: WELL_a51 | Title: INVOICE 6/1978-12/1978 | Barcode:000095455,

              Well: WELL_a52 | Title: INVOICE 6/1978-12/1978 | Barcode: 000095456,

              Well: WELL_a53 | Title: INVOICE 6/1978-12/1978 | Barcode: 000095457,

              Well: WELL_a54 | Title: INVOICE 6/1978-12/1978 | Barcode: 000095458

Not PERFECT, but I can live with the commas.  Thanks.

Well, it was an idea worth trying.

I don't know what else to suggest.

Marking your suggestion as correct.  It led me to a working solution.  Thank you!
