Can you post a small dataset ?
If you drag "measure Names" onto your Columns shelf, and put "Measure names" on your filter shelf (and select what measures you want to show), and put "measure values" on your detail shelf, you'll get your measures side by side.
If you post a sample workbook like Marc suggested, someone can show you how to do that.

I may have a solution that might work for you.
Something that I have been using quite a bit lately, is Tableau's data 'pivot' feature.
The idea with your data set that you've provided, was to have 2 sets of bars 'Opened' and 'Closed', depicting the total number of defects over a period of months.
What I've done to simulate this was to pivot the 'Opened' and 'Closed' columns by highlighting those 2 columns, clicking on the drop down arrow of the 'Closed' column, then selecting 'Pivot':
You will then end up with 2 new columns: ('Pivot field names' & 'Pivot field values')
Now, what I've done to determine the number of defects was to create the following calc's: (though you could always just use 'number of records)
Once this was done, I started by placing the 2 new measures on the Rows shelf.
Then I placed 'Pivot filed value' (which is actually the opened and closed dates), and the 'Pivot field names' on the columns shelf:
Finishing it up by placing the 'Pivot field names' on the colors shelf:
and there you go...
It could use come tinkering on the defective values...I may have missed something, but it's something that you can work from.
Oh and I've also attached a packaged workbook for you to review.
Hope it helps.
Another way of getting this using Custom SQL. Connect your excel with legacy connection and write a query like this
then drag your fields like this. Change the format of your date field to YYYY MM
Hope this help. Workbook (version 9.3) attached for your reference.
Sample Workbook 9.3.twbx 21.4 KB
Thanks for all the help and the rapid responses. I was able to use the custom query approach and I'm off and running!
