you can definitely compare your year field and your calculated field.
the above would return a t/f
Hi , Try this :
create a calculation name year filter :
IF [Selection_Year]=[Year] THEN [Year]
duplicate this calculation and drag this duplicated calculation into filter shelf and exclude null value.
then drag year filter calculation into filter and choose show filter and then select only show relevant values in filter options.
attaching the workbook for reference.

Hi Chris and Hima,
thank you very much for your quick replies.
That helped already :-)
Now I have one additional questions:
=> I tried to use the calculation as condition within filter that failed.
I wanted to do to see,
a) which year is selected
b) to be able to select additional year to the preselection using calculated field.
Is that possible?
can you please elaborate on your question and possible even add a screenshot of what you are trying to accomplish? i think what you are asking is possible.
thank you very much for your reply.
I will try to explain it. In case of any questions, please let me know.
My calculation is:
When "A" Then 2010
When "B" Then 2011
When "C" Then 2012
If I select "A", data for 2010 should be shown.
Now with the new "T/F" field it will do it.
But in a second step I would like like to see also the data for "A" for 2010 and 2009.
Meaning: I would like to select additional "2009" from filter.
I tried to accomplish that using the "Condition" with the filter "Year", but I failed.
Is it a bit clearer now?
Otherwise please let me know.
i do understand what you are asking but i am thinking we should take a different approach. what is your end goal in the analysis? in the above calculated field we have defined A as 2010, B as 2011, and so on. but now you are saying that A should be 2010 and 2009. this is fundamentally why the calculation will not work for you.
well, the calculated field should just do some kind or preselection.
Meaning, that there is for each category (A,B or C) a main year.
But I might be interested in additional years, that I would like to add to the preselection (without always adjusting calculated field).
I thought there would be a way using "condition" within filter.
This is why I asked my questions.
And thank you for taking the time for answering my questions.
