# Showing sums of zero on line graphs

Question: How can I make aggregations that total to zero show up on a line graph?

In the attached workbook, I'm trying to total how many of each type of grade exist throughout the year.  No one has an A prior to October 16.  How can I make Tableau extend the A line from the beginning of the graph until October 16 with a value of zero from the beginning of the year until Octoter 16th?

All my searching is turning up questions of what to do when there is no data for a particular date, and it doesn't seem like ZN is the solution to my problem (or I'm using ZN at the wrong step).

Thanks!

Will this work for you?

If, so you need to change few things here. First change your date to Discrete, second right click Sum(Number of Records, then Format), Under Pane, make sure you have followings:

Alternate solution,

Make two calculations returning the number of records for each Letter Grade.

Bring both on the rows and create a dual axis.

Format each axis with  Special Values Marks: Show at Default Value.

This way you can keep the continuous date axis

Interesting - that would work.  In my actual version, I'm already using dual axis for something else, so this won't work for me, but thanks!

Howard,

You are welcome. Glad it worked on you.
