There's a lot of things Tableau can do!!!
Confirm your latitude/longitude fields have been assigned correct "Geographic Role", and then you can play with your data.
Here is a link from Tableua Viz Gallery which has map, for your referece.
With a glance at your screenshots, I have two advices.
- You have both lat/long fields (Last Latitude/Last Longitude) in your data and
the Tableau auto generated lat/long fields (according to geograhpic fields like city...)
From your description, it seems that you want to use Last Latitude/Last Longitude fields for mapping,
so please place these two fields in Columns/Rows shelvs in stead of the auto generated ones.
- Do you have any field like user id?
If so place this filed onto detail mark.
Thanks I got the data I needed except for one thing, look a the screen I got, Can I change it so it measures the total of occurrences by country? for example, 5000 for mexico, 9000 for usa, etc?
Like, instead of dots, total amount of logins per country?
Do I make sense ?
This is so good now but grouping by country is the last thing I need.
I suppose each row in your data stands for one access.
Thus, try these steps,
1, Right click "user id" from your data window, drag and drop it onto label mark,
2. Select CNT(user id) in the "Drop Field" windows and click OK.
You'll see the occurence figures.
Also step 1 has some alternatives.
Please try to place it on color mark or size mark too, and see the beautify viz Tableau creates!
I did (i think i did what you instructed) but I got this:
Notice how it looks like its counting the amount of users id that have the exact same long and latitude.
when in fact i want something similar to this, can tableau do this with the data I have? Anyway this is very helpful but
the below picture would be the best outcome.
Thanks so much for your help LEI CHEN!
Glad to be helpful
A little more supplyments for your reference.
For unique user counts per country,
- Place dimension "Home Country" on detail mark-
- Place Count Distinct of "User ID" on any mark you like
