# Having multiple colors in a filled map

Hi, I'm a beginner in Tableau and am trying to create a map with who won more votes in each county in the recent presidential elections.

I am able to color red for a republican and blue for a deomcrat county. But what i need is based on the margin of winning the color has to be light or dark.

For example - if Trump won by 12k votes that county should be more darker that trump winning by 7k votes. Same with Hillary win counties.

Hi Akhil,

Welcome to Tableau community.
Tableau always visualise the "Measures" / numerical fields in form of colour shades.. such that lesser the value, lighter the shade. more the value, darker is the shade.
But in your example. Result field is a  dimension. Its only categorising two elements of your field. i.e. either Trump or hillary (Red and Blue)
In case you want to display the colour range by means of shade then you should put the Measure field which has the actual value of votes in Colour shelf.

Hope my explanation helps!
If not, attach the workbook. i will be happy to explain in you in an elaborated manner.

Kajal

Hi Akhil,

SInce you are using to different measures, I.e. Votes fo hillary and votes for trump. i have used dual axis maps for better representation. And at place of counts of vote, i have taken SUM(Votes) so as to calculate the total number of votes.

Yes, i am sure, in the country sheet you will have various coloured circles in that case.
But, if you use help of Filters so that only concerned part of the country is displayed, then it might solve your problem.
