Would you please post your sample data as I simulated it and it seems to be working just fine, but I may not understand your problem. Thanks
Thanks - I've added an example workbook to show what I'm trying to do. The Dashboard defaults to all, but if you only look at April & May of 2016/2017, you'll see that Oranges are now below Bananas, even though Oranges has a higher count. I would like the layout to update based upon the highest value.

Your request is quit tricky in this case from datasource standpoint.
Measure value cannot be sorted. Then Fruit name should be created as dimension.
To do so, I propose some workaround as below.
And drag sheet 1 three times.
Now you have sheet1, sheet11 and sheet12
Create calculated field to have "Fruit name in it.
if [Table Name]="Sheet1" and contains([Apples, Bananas, Oranges],"Apple") then "Apple"
elseif [Table Name]="Sheet11" and contains([Apples, Bananas, Oranges],"Orange") then "Orange"
elseif [Table Name]="Sheet12" and contains([Apples, Bananas, Oranges],"Banana") then "Banana"
Put "Fruit" in filter and filter out "Null"

Thanks Shinichiro - I guess I'm glad it wasn't something easy I was just missing. Unfortunately, I'm actually exporting from Salesforce, not an excel spreadsheet so I can't duplicate the sheets that way either. Who would have thought it would be so difficult
Need to re-shape the original data to have fruit name as dimension in itself.
