I assume you're talking about Tableau extracts? If so, unpackaging will create a data folder and the twb will point at the extracts within this data folder. And if you refresh the extracts, then it will pull from your original database / file and refresh the extract within the data folder.
The original data files are Excel files. I'm not familiar with Tableau extracts. Yes, I just confirmed that the unpackaged .twb points to the datafiles in the unpackaged datafile folder. When I refresh the data files in the unpackaged .twb they still point to the data files in the unpackaged data folder. How do I make them point to the original copies of the files?
I don't think you need to do something as long as you are using same PC.
When you save the workbook, just change it to TWB.
If you are talking about Extracted data, you can simply click/unclick "Use Extract".
All the connect info is still in your local PC as long as you are using same one.
Yes, I'm using the same PC. Couldn't find the "Use Extract" choice in the menus, but I came across "Edit connection" and it solves my problem. I was able to switch the unpackaged .twb back to the original data files.
