I am still new to Tableau and would appreciate if a detailed step by step directions could be posted, as this seems to be issue for many Tableau users (so many threads on the same question on google).

So when live connection data is updated it should update the lists in parameter (in this case a list of dates, e.g. ) and show max date as default if possible, so when users go to the dashboard, they are able to see latest date data availability.
Currently with every data refresh, even if it is a live connection, I have to manually refresh each parameter and then republish. Manual intervention takes away from automation.

Right now, there isn't a way to update the list of values for a parameter when there is a refresh. I'd recommend up-voting these ideas:
