Do you also use Tableau server?
What I have found is because Desktop tries to keep formatting the Excel export can take a very long time for large files (or they may end up crashing) - my work around, which likely is not the ideal solution, is to publish to Tableau server and export from there since that exports as a .CSV file. The main issue with this is if you use custom number formatting within Tableau it will export as text since it's a csv file - so I remove any custom formatting prior to publishing.
I would love to know if anyone else has any other solutions to this problem though!
No, you are absolutely not expected to have any issues.
Could you describe exact nature of your problem(s)? Do you have any joins? Any complex calculation?
There are no joins. I am simply trying to extract a single spreadsheet with 7 columns and 196,600 rows of data.
When I get to the "Creating Extract..." part, Tableau says "Tableau has stopped working..." then it shuts down completely.
Thank you for trying to help me figure this out.
I do not have Tableau Server.
Ouch. Seems like it's crashing.
Can you check if you have any *.dmp files under your Tableau logs folder (Documents\My Tableau Repository\Logs)? If yes, can you share it with me privately? (like PM me link to Dropbox)
Also, do you have any other Tableau windows opened when it happens? Did it ever succeed?
