# Tableau (very) beginner - calculate/show market share

Hi,

I'm very new to Tableau and need to be able to show Market Share. I've looked for tutorials, etc, but I think it might be too basic.

Any help would be appreciated. I only have 6 variables/columns.

Thanks.

We would need more info, such as what are your 6 columns and what is the "market?" Feel free to attach the data to the post.

I think Todd nailed it.  When I think of market share I think of:

-----------------------------  = %Market Share

Total Market Volume

If you have those fields for your volume and total market share volume create a calculated field.

Mike,

That is the "very beginner" help that I needed. That link helped a lot. Now I am trying to see how to write the formula to give me what I need. I basically need to get the total count of Vendor B and then divide that by the sum of all units and make the result a percentage.

What you are doing may be a little easier than what I'm thinking.  Try changing the Units to a quick table calculation > percent of total.  If need be, add it to the values multiple times.  That would give the the market share for all.  Back to Todd's first point, it is very difficult to get an idea of what you are trying to do.
