1. Re: New to Tableau - How do I make this Gantt chart?
Kyle Boyce Sep 16, 2016 1:36 PM (in response to andrew.sherwood)A Gantt chart can be made by using 1 date, 0 or more dimensions, and 1 or more measures.
Try using your date field onto Columns (Continuous Week Layout), and your Action onto Rows, then you can play with placing Number of Records on the Size shelf OR whatever field makes sense in your data.

Pavani Donepudi Sep 16, 2016 4:23 PM (in response to andrew.sherwood)It all depends on the how the data is pulled. Looking at your data, I created a CSV and Tableau to replicate it. See if that helps. Attached are the documents.

Rajeev Pandey Sep 17, 2016 1:53 AM (in response to andrew.sherwood)Hi Andrew,
The Gantt chart was invented back in the 1910s by Mr. Henry Gantt as a way to visualize a schedule or progression of time. Since then, the Gantt chart has become a staple of project management methodology. Each task can be planned as an individual data point with interdependencies on other tasks and resources. You can see how a complicated project, such as developing a software application, could use a tool like this.
To exhibit the effectiveness of the Gantt chart and to illustrate a different way that it can be used outside of task planning for project management.Gantt chart is a great visual tool for depicting information in relation to time, whether it is for scheduling or otherwise.
