http_requests is the only place I can think of that would allow you to distinguish Desktop vs Server connections to Data Sources. You might be able to use the IP addresses that aren't from one of your Tableau Server hosts and assume that they're from Desktop connections. Look for /dataserver.

Hi Amy - I posted a similar thread a while back Identify whether a user is accessing a data source through Desktop rather than Server . I never did get what I needed. I was more interested to know whether Desktop Users were actually using the software or not as while I could see activity on the server against data sources & views, I couldn't tell whether that was through accessing the view on server or locally. The Licence monitoring additions in v10 will help a bit towards what I need.
