I don't know why these were removed or the plans for them, but I thought I'd hop in and mention - the v1 WDC connectors still work in Tableau V10, so you can always use that version instead.
Hope this helps!
Thanks, Derrick! I'll try that.
Apologies for the confusion here. The jsonConnector (and xmlConnector) were part of the WDC v1 SDK. When Tableau 10.0 was released, our GitHub master branch became version 2.0 of the SDK officially, which included all new samples. The jsonConnector ended up in the V2 SDK by accident.
Both the json connector and xml connector are still usable in any 9.1 or later version of Tableau. They just won't show up in the same place as they did before. You can still find them in our V1 version of the SDK on GitHub: GitHub - tableau/webdataconnector at v1.1.0. Every time we make a new release of the SDK, we add a tag for it on GitHub so it's easy to find.
The background here is that we felt the V1 samples did not do a good job at teaching specific aspects of the WDC API. They were useful, but did not extremely didactic (and some buggy). So we rebuilt some new samples that were more streamlined.
On a related note, if you have any local json data, you could try out our new local json support that is in beta: Tableau 10.1 Beta Is Here | Tableau Software
Interestingly, I got the Beta (thanks for suggesting that), but I don't see the JSON option that's shown here: Tableau 10.1 Beta Is Here | Tableau Software
What I see is below, and the "More..." option doesn't list JSON files in the filter list. Am I looking at the wrong spot?
I see - ok, thanks for that!
