# Fill Area under One Line in Multiple-Part Line Graph

Hello! I have a question about filling in only a single area on a multiple line graph I'm using. Is this possible? I need to fill in the area under the orange line in the attached graph, while the grey lines remain only lines.

The graph is intended to show progress against two previous fiscal years. I am also not sure how to change the weeks to only be numbers rather than to say "week 1, week 2, etc". I need it to say "1, 2, 3" to save space in my dashboard.

Thanks for any advice you might have for me!

Hi,

Hi Nathen, you could try artificially splitting this data into two measures, using dual-axis, and making the second measure (which will be the orange line's data) into an area chart, which will be filled. It's harder to explain without the packaged workbook, but here's an outline of what you could do:

1. Create two new measures. One will be for the area chart (FY 2017) and the other will be for everything else. These might look like this:

IIF(YEAR([TheDate])=2017, [TheMeasure], NULL)

IIF(YEAR([TheDate])<2017, [TheMeasure], NULL)

2. Put these two measures next to each other on the Rows shelf. Right-click whichever one is on the right and enable dual-axis. Then, right-click the new axis on the chart and synchronize the axes.
3. Click on the new card that popped up for the 2017-only measure. Then, choose Area for the chart type.

Let me know if that works!

David, thanks for a great reply! I wish there was some way to provide this data to you for help.

When I try your method, I don't have the option to use line or area charts. The two calculated fields I created just show up as separate bars, one above the other.

Hi Nathen! You should still put WEEK(Award Effective Date) on the Columns Shelf so that it creates a time series as it did in your original image.
