# Calculating average on a scale

Hey guys,

I am fairly new to Tableau, and I am trying to create a bar graph which has 4 teams and each team is rated on the basis on different categories such as clarity, organization, etc.

I am getting the sum of clarity of all team members and then getting the average, however my requirement is that the average should be rated between 1-5. For example if there are 2 team members with clarity rating of 15(5*3) then the average should be shown as 5(Max value).

In figure, for clarity it shows 26, but I want the average between 1-5.

I have attached the graph to make it more understandable.

Thanks

I do not see your attached graph.  Do you have a sample workbook for further clarity?

Thanks,
Kristy

I am sorry. I am fairly new to the Tableau forum.

if i understand this correctly, you want to get the avg value per category instead of sum. you can right click the measures and select average (screenshot).

or you can create a calculated field to get the average from the sum by dividing value some by number of members

Dear Alex,

That worked perfectly. Thanks
