Server's development features are pretty limited compared to Desktop. I think you'd be doing yourself a disservice by trying to avoid Desktop.
Thanks for the reply.What disservice, I find that you can develop reports in both and all the connectors are present in Server.In what way is it distinguished from Desktop in case of report development(primarily for which desktop is preferred).Thanks in advance.

You can definitely make reports in Tableau Server using Web Edit, but it isn't near as clean and friendly as the Desktop tool.
That being said, Tableau is making huge improvements in web edit, so it is much closer to a front-end tool than it used to be.
If your users are just making small ad-hoc things, it works great. If they need to make anything advanced, I'd push Tableau Desktop.
