Hello Aden ZHAO,
I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues connecting to your Tableau data source.
There are many variables here that were not shared. The version of Tableau server, the datasource, the drivers used to access the data and the data connection itself. It's probably best to open a Tableau support ticket at http://support.tableau.com in an instance like this since it would be hard to reproduce the issue encountered.
I have the same issue and have reached out to support. Waiting to hear back and will update, but not sure why the progress bar is limited to 8MB - very frustrating. My data source says 16mb on Tableau Server but I have seen the 8mb "Extracting Data - Getting data from server" screen over 30 times.
Experiencing similar issue. Did you solve it?
Sorry - should have posted back!! Here was their response. They also acknoledged that it wasnt the most suitable solution or useful, as it doesnt provide the user with an idea about progress. They mentioned they were adding as an enhancement. That was back in March!
"As mentioned in my message, there was a recent change to how Tableau Desktop queries data from Tableau Server. In an effort to make certain that workbooks preserve the data integrity and to keep the requests (GET and POST requests) to a manageable size, the transfers are broken down into the 8.0 MB segments."
Interesting. Does it mean that you just have to wait for all 8mb chunks go through. bizarre
I am getting the same issue, but mine is doing it in 8.4MB chunks, and it seems to never want to end. I am not entirely sure how big the whole file is on Tableau Online (how can I tell?), but I have waited for ages now, while it goes through each 8.4MB and still there is no end to it.
I would really like to be able to do this extract, as my source data extract is in a very granular detail (Required for other workbooks), but this workbook I am working with only requires summary data that I would like to publish to Tableau Public, so I really would like to limit how much data is to be published to improve the performance...
Any ideas how to solve this, or whether the extract will ever end?
