    Need help to filter multi-value column

    Zankar Thakkar

      Hi,

      I am new to Tableau and trying to create a filter on Genre column in Movies meta data.

      This column can include one or more genre values associated with the movie.

      Movie          Genre

      Movie 1      "Comedy";

      Movie 2      "Comedy, Drama";

      Movie 3      "Action,Comedy, Drama".

      Movie 4      "Drama"

      Movie 5      "Action"

      There are 25+ Genres and many combinations are possible.

      I want to provide user a multi value drop-down filter with single genre choices like Comedy, Action, Drama etc. User can select one or more Genres or all options. Currently it is showing up with all combinations of various genres in the filter and its a lot. I want to hide all the combinations and only show single values.

      If user selects Comedy genre from the filter, movies 1, 2 and 3 related data should show up on the charts. If user selects both "Comedy" and "Drama" from the filter, movie 1, 2,3 and 4 should show up.

      Any ideas on where to start?

      Please let me know if I can provide any more information or explanation.

      Thanks a lot,

      Zankar
