# Histogram Distribution chart using decimals in the data - Information Lab

Hi all!

I am creating a gaussian normal distribution curve with a histogram, almost identical to the one posted here by the information lab. However my data is in cents and not full numbers.

To explain that further, I have my profit in cents instead of whole numbers. So similar to the photo below my profits are ordered as follows 0.34, 0.35, 0.37, 0.38, etc etc.

I followed this blogpost exactly, and did get it work for whole numbers but when my  profit was in cents I couldn't get it to work. I have tried converting the data source field to decimals and percentage, but neither of those work. What am I doing wrong here?

Thanks!
Brook

Can you please attach the workbook you were using?

An easy solve might be to just multiply your cents field by 100?

What exactly is going wrong?  Is the normal curve not displaying properly or are you not getting anything at all?

If you aren't getting anything, you may need to transform your data slightly before using the INT( ) function:

INT ( [Profit] / 100 ) * 100

This converts each penny into an integer (0.01 x 100 = 1) before applying the INT function and rounding down.

Hi Mason,

I'm not getting anything at all.

Hi Tom,

Let me try and put together another workbook to post, I can't post the

current one because it has sensitive information in it.

Thanks!

Hey guys, I think I got it! I just changed the Parameter range of values to a step size of 0.001, and kept the range from 0 to 1! It worked!
