Hi Yili! You can indeed use one or more parameters to control filtering across multiple data sources, but parameter options cannot be dynamically changed based on the values from the data source. You can refresh the options on demand based on the data source using the "From Field" option you mentioned in that link, but the parameter will not continue to update without your intervention.
If you need a global control that automatically updates, you might consider upgrading to Tableau 10, which includes filters that work across data sources.
Thank you for the quick response. The other option that uses a third view to control the filter. would that work for the dynamic scenario? I will surely take a look at the new filter feature for Tableau 10 at the same time.

You're welcome! Yes, the control view method will update dynamically based on the source data and should work as long as you have the right data source relationships. But IMHO, it's kind of clunky, and if you have the flexibility to upgrade to Tableau 10 and use CDS joins, you're much better off that way.
