Thanks Toby for getting back. I did the first one, changed the connection within the workbook and republished it. But the requirement is to automate the data extract refresh on tableau server and I need help to understand how can I do it..
Making the change in the workbook was the right process. Did you then perform an extract from Desktop, and did it complete without error, before you published to the Server?
Yes. That is how I proceeded. Created an extract pointing to a different table in hadoop. The extract was created from Desktop without any error. And once the extract was created, I published it to the server. I have published both the connection, as well as the packaged workbook.
After I publishing them both to server, I tested the connection from server and it responds. However, when I run a refresh schedule, the report fails to refresh.
You are probably going to need to open a support case to submit detailed logs.
Can you please say what type of authentication you are doing to Hadoop. Is it an embedded username and password for example? Are you using a TDC file on the server? And finally the version of Tableau Server.
The hadoop connection that I am using Hortonworks Hadoop Hive, Type - Hive server2, Authentication - Username
When I publish the connection on server, I select 'embed password' option. I am also not using any TDC file on server.
Tableau server version is 9.0 and the Desktop version is also 9.0
Thanks for helping.
I assume you really meant username/password for the Authentication method as embedding a password on publish would not make sense.
Also what versions of the ODBC driver are being used on the desktop and server? Do they match in version and 32/64 bitness?
Sorry I couldn't reply back to you yesterday. The reason why I embed password is because, I want to keep the connection on recurring automatic refresh on tableau server and if I do not use the option 'Embed password' the recurring automatic refresh fails.
Version of ODBC driver installed on
desktop - 126.96.36.1995
server - 188.8.131.522
Do you this it is because of the version incompatibility? Because if it is, then it did work initially but now it is failing.
I can try to make it in same version and test again.
Just wanted to inform everyone here that after I reinstalled the ODBC driver for desktop, to make it compatible with the ODBC version on the server, the automatic refresh has been working fine since then. However, I am still unsure if that was the reason why the extracts were failing previously.
But I am happy that it is working now.. Thanks all for the help!!
