# Representing month and YTD on same bar chart

Hello to all

Trying to represent on a Bar Chart the monthly performance comparing to years and have the sum per year... (see attached PDF)

I need to represent the number of occurences comparing for instance 2015 and 2016 ...  I thought about using the dimension for the month and creating a calculated field that would represent the cumulated monthly numbers per year (Window_sum for instance...) did not work for me.

Has anyone faced this challenge in the past and solved it? Is there a possibility to get some ideas on how to solve this bar chart challenge

The easiest way is use two sheets and align as if they were one.

• ###### 2. Re: Representing month and YTD on same bar chart

Hello Michel

My recommendation is not to show months and YTD on the same sheet. Why? Because the month bars will become smaller and smaller as the year progresses.

Perhaps you would want to show 2 sheets on a dashboard, side by side. The first would represent the months, and the second the YTD figures

Hope this helps

Alexis

Thanks so much for the suggestion... I did do it before posting and it became a nightmare for formatting and sizing in the dashboard... I do not mind too much the difference in size in the bars if I can make one chart

Make one per Month, duplicate and change for year and don't use auto-adjustmennt

• ###### 5. Re: Representing month and YTD on same bar chart

Here is a way to align height.

[Latest Date]

{fixed :max([Date])}

[Date Filter]

if ([Year]<year([Latest Date]) and [Date] <= dateadd('year',-1,[Latest Date]) )

or [Year]= year([Latest Date]) then [Date] END

[Month]    //  without 1~12, You can not sort...

right(str(month([Date])+100),2)+"_"+datename('month',[Date])

[Year]

year([Date])

[ref Line]

{exclude [Month]:countd([Date Filter])}

or

[ref Line only last]

if month([Date]) = month([Latest Date]) then {exclude [Month]:countd([Date Filter])} end

Thanks,

Shin

Shin:

Truly appreciate the time, effort and energy spent... I will try your suggestion this PM

I just realized that this is another way to show.

Independent month and Cumulative with dual axis.

Thanks,

Shin
