Is this installed on the Tableau Server?

Simply put - does this need to be installed on the same server as Tableau Server or can it be installed to the pc with Tableau Desktop?  If it does need to reside on the Tableau Server, how does one go about using it - say if their server solution is remotely hosted?  We do have a Tableau Server administrator locally - would it be up to him?  I am only a site admin at this time.

It can be set up on any machine you like, with some requirements (see the install_guide). You'll want to run it on a machine that is always running, and ideally being monitored so that you are notified if it goes down. It must run against Tableau Server, but does not need to run on the same machine(s) as Tableau Server. You can't run it against Desktop, no. Yes, you will need your Server admin to do most, if not all, of the setup of VizAlerts. It uses trusted tickets, which requires that Tableau Server must whitelist the IP address of the machine you're using to run VizAlerts--so as long as your remotely hosted server can do that, I don't see why it should be a problem. Easier to run it directly on the Tableau Server machine itself, in that configuration, but you don't have to do it that way.
