# Plotting DAU/MAU

Hi All,

I'm very new to Tableau, so please bare with me if this is a simple question.

I have a data set, which contains a list of shopper IDs and the corresponding dates which they have shopped at a particular store. What I am trying to do is calculate from the single date field the distinct daily shopper count divided by the distinct monthly active shopper count - this will allow me to track by day the activity of shoppers (DAU/MAU). I can easily figure out how to plot DAU or MAU on their own, but can't figure out how to show one divided by the other.

Any help would be appriciated. I've searched the forums for an answer but haven't had much luck with the articles I've come across!

Thanks

Mark,

Please see if the attached could be a starting point for you.

You may have already taken these preliminary steps, but

just in case these may be useful:

I first created a Month version of the date using:

DATETRUNC('month',[Date])

Then I calculated the MAU using a Level of Detail calculation:

{ FIXED [MonthlyDate]:COUNTD([Shopper ID])}

And likewise the DAU:

{ FIXED [Date]:COUNTD([Shopper ID])}

This allowed for easy division:

[DAU]/[MAU]

which can be used for plotting:

Thanks Swaroop, worked perfectly! Think I need to learn a bit more about fixing variables. Basically, allows you to fix the variables at one level and calculate at another?

Mark,

Yes, you can make a calculation at a particular level without having to bring

that dimension into the view.
