With that being said, my knowledge of Tableau connecting to Essbase is non-existent. You may however find this useful - How to make Tableau know a field is a date and not an attribute on a MS-AS Cube

I think what you should be aiming to do is to convert FY15 and FY16 into numbers by using a standard string manipulation technique. There's a bunch of ways you can achieve this - by removing instances of FY in the string, by taking the right two characters, by using the substring function to take the right two characters etc. You would concatenate that with "20", convert it to numeric and you'd have your continuous field.
