There are no licensing issues restricting the ability to embed a view from Tableau Server - however, the license comes into consideration when authenticating to the embedded view. If you wanted users to be able to see the view without needing to log in to the Tableau Server, the Guest User account would need to be enabled. However, this account is only available to Core License users of Tableau Server and that does not sound like the licensing model that is currently in use.
You can read more about the Guest User account here: Guest User
Thanks and hope this helps!
Many thanks for getting back.
Our web portal has a login credentials which is not windows authentication credentials.Every user login using these credentials.
Now my question is , can these credentials be given the access at the tableau end ?
I'm not as familiar with what is represented in the Customer Portal but I do know that any user needing to authenticate with the embedded view would need to be on the Tableau Server as a licensed user with Viewer or greater permissions. See this article for more information on site roles: Site Roles for Users
The viz can be embedded but only those who have a Tableau Server account (a licensed user) will be able to actually see it. If a non-licensed user went to the web page where the viz is they would just see empty space and a message. I can't remember the exact message but it's something about needing to log in in order to view it or they don't have the right permissions to view it. Something that I'm sure will generate an email to you from the user asking why
Thank you guys for the immediate response.
We have come up with the other option i.e the web portal is not windows authentication. It has its own User ID and Password which will remain the same for all the users who are trying to access this web portal.
Now my question is can these USER ID be provided the authentication i.e can the same user(User ID) be created on the tableau server and be used to view the views on the portal?
