Could you clarify this part, please?
"create a calculated field on any data set from excel to our server"
Could you, perhaps, provide a screenshot and/or more detailed steps? Where does server (Tableau Server?) come into the picture?
Also, are there any *.dmp files in the Logs folder?
I can confirm similar behavior, which just began for me with 9.3.4. Updated today to 9.3.5 and issue persists.
Working locally, with the data source either an Excel or text file, selecting Create calculated field turns the screen white. I can still see my cursor, but the Tableau interface is otherwise gone. I have to go to Task Manager or Alt + Tab to another program, then close Tableau Desktop from there.
My PC is a Dell XPS 15 9550. No *.dmp files in my Logs folder.
This might be a display resolution issue and not a Tableau issue. We ran into a similar issue on a Dell XPS 15 laptop that has a high-resolution display. The pop-up is there, but it's just too big and you can't see the sides of the pop-up. if you change the resolution to be as high as possible, then you will be able to see the pop-up because the pop-up size will decrease then. Also, manually adjust the size of pop-up to be even smaller, then you will see the pop-up ok even when you go back to lower resolution. Hope that helps!
BTW, we also found this blog post helpful more generally to address display resolution issues for specific applications: Adobe App Scaling on High DPI Displays (FIX) | Dan Antonielli
