Formatting Exact Date in Continuous Line Charts

    Jason Cheung

I followed this article Changing the Date Level Dynamically | Tableau Software to create a date level selector for my continuous line chart because I want to be able to drill up on dates.  I have searched every where and learned that Tableau does not allow you to drill up on continuous dates for now https://community.tableau.com/ideas/1304.  The drill up feature is only available for discrete dates.  However, I don't like the visuals on the discrete line chart (it breaks up the line into different sections).     My question is - is it possible to format the Exact Date when setting the calculated fields or the parameter?   I have very little knowledge in programming and don't know if that is possible.

What I hope is if I select Year, it will show "2012", "2013", "2014", "2015", "2016" but not 1/1/2012, 1/1/2013, 1/1/2014...etc.   If I select Quarter, it will show "Q2 2015" or "2015 Q2" instead of 4/1/2015 and if I select Month, it will show month.

Thank you very much in advance for your help!
