If you want to do full refresh of extracts on TD then no need of any tab cmd commands . please follow this link:https://onlinehelp.tableau.com/current/online/en-us/to_refresh_desktop.htm
Note:You can automate extract refresh tasks using the Tableau Data Extract Utility. This is a command-line utility that comes with Tableau Desktop, through which you can refresh published data sources or append data to them from a file.
For more information on the above point you can go through this link.Automate Extract Refresh Tasks from the Command Line
idea behind using tabcmd is to save time, beacuse performing full refresh is taking lot of time (it has 1 year data)
so any other way to do it?
If you publish your data source then this process can be automated. The other alternate is connect with the live data rather than taking an extract.
My basic challenge is to load 1 year data from sql to tableau, which is taking time and so i taught of using tabcmd.
But what i now understand is tabcmd can only be used if the workbook is published on the tableau server
(is my this assumption right?)
if yes, then please suggest me any faster way from which i can load 1 year data from sql to tableau
Full extract refreshes during business hours, will effect performance make sure to configure your schedules accordingly.
Need more information:
What is the size of the DB.?
how many columns and rows you have?
where is your DB is located?
Is there is network latency?
Load on the DB?
How many users are currently using the DB?
