The first paragraph says: When working with data in this format, you can pivot the data in your Microsoft Excel and text file data sources from crosstab format into columnar format.
There should be no need to pivot a SQL data source, you can just write Custom SQL to do the pivot.
Thank you! It's unfortunate, because I don't manage the SQL Server, so I will need to get IT involved.
An alternative that might work is accessing the SQL Server in excel then opening the excel file in Tableau.
You don't need IT to write Custom SQL but you do need to be familiar with the data model to be able to write the correct SQL statement.
I am familiar with the data model, but I am not versed in writing SQL Statements. What's the custom SQL for pivoting?
